Highlights

  • Exhibiter set up is Monday, October 27, 11am – 3pm. Last minute set up can take place on Tuesday, October 28, 8:30 – 10am. If setup will be done on Tuesday, we need to let Ann Humphrey know in advance.
  • Exploratorium photography will take place on Tuesday, October 28th at 12:30pm. We need to let Ann Humphrey know if we do not want any particular exhibit photographed.
  • Tuesday, October 28 1:30-2:30pm: Ferenc to host VIP visitors tour.
  • All booths should be staffed for the Opening Reception on Tuesday 4:45pm – 8:00pm, and for as much of Wednesday 8:30-3:30pm as possible.

1. AMIGO model: Learn about the Advanced Multimodality Image-Guided Operating suite (AMIGO) at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

  • This is a physical 3D model of the AMIGO suite, and a presentation on a laptop. We will bring both. Need a 4x4 space for the model, space for the laptop, power cord and monitor for the laptop.

2. Tractography for Neurosurgery:

  • Learn how to interactively visualize diffusion tracts around brain tumors using free open source software 3D Slicer in image-guided neurosurgery.
  • This is a computer demo. We will bring a laptop computer. Needs desk space for the laptop, a power outlet and a monitor.

3. MRI Guided Electrophysiology: Learn about a way to perform cardiac Electro-Physiology (EP) inside an MRI scanner, which potentially provides the interventionalist on-line information on cardiac chamber anatomy and function, as well as rapid feed-back on the success of ablation procedures. We demonstrate an integrated MRI-guided EP system, along with dedicated MRI-compatible tracked devices and special expandable imaging coils.

  • This is 1) a powerpoint presentation on a computer and 2) demonstration of 3-4 coils for tracking. We will bring the laptop and coils. Need desk space equivalent for two laptops (the coils are small and will be easily demoable in very little space), power outlet and monitor for the laptop.

4. Micro-robotic Swimming Capsule for Un-tethered Endoscopy: Learn about a new technology that uses swimming micro-robots in an MRI scanner to transmit images from inside the body.

  • This is a computer demo. We will bring a laptop computer. Needs desk space for the laptop, a power outlet and a monitor.

5. Portable Anesthesia integrated with table: See a portable anesthesia machine that can be easily moved with the patient between the imaging and treatment stations in the AMIGO operating suite. This is the result of a collaboration between Cardinal Medical Specialties and Brigham and Women's Hospital.

  • This is an actual portable anesthesia machine. We will bring it. Need 4x2 table for the anesthesia machine and a power outlet.

    1. 2-3 sentence description of this demo for advertising purposes: Focused ultrasound fountain:The process of focusing ultrasound for “knifeless” surgery can be dramatically demonstrated by showing the effect of focused ultrasound at a water surface, creating a plume of water ( PLUME). Battery-powered ultrasound: Small ultrasound monitors – capable of being powered by AA batteries - are being developed with potential uses from the home to the battlefield. A handheld monitor designed for measurement through the skull will be demonstrated.

    1. 2-3 sentence description of this demo for advertising purposes:The goal of surgical treatment for cerebral neoplasms is to maximize the extent of tumor resection while minimizing postoperative neurologic deficits. Preoperative functional MRI and DTI are highly effective, non-invsive methods of mapping eloquent cortical areas and critical white matter structures, so as to assess their relationship with a tumor or other pathological neural manifestations
