2018 SNR Retreat

Objective

  • Annual research retreat for members of SNR lab to present their on-going (unpublished) work, crazy new thoughts, introducing new ideas out there.
  • Not a regular research presentation like a scientific conference. This is a celebration of innovation.
  • Summer interns' opportunity to present their projects
  • Hear expert's view on future of image-guided therapy
  • Interact with external collaborators and stakeholders of SNR Laboratory
  • (Recruiting opportunity for external industrial collaborators. External industrial collaborators' opportunity to network with experts in medical device instrumentation)

  • 8.45am-9.45am: Session I: 2 presentations, Kat Stephan introduces (Talk 15 minutes, discussion 10 minutes, chair's wrap-up 5 min)
      • 8.45-9.15: Andrew Zheng
      • Andrew is a rising junior at The Lawrenceville School. He will be presenting Developing and Evaluating Logistic Regression Models for Predicting Needle Deviation during Transperineal Prostate Biopsies
    • 9.15-9.45: Lucas Ewing
      • Lucas is a rising senior at Concord Academy. He will be presenting High-throughput tumor tissue segmentation using machine learning.
  • 9.45am-10.00am: Coffee Break
  • 10.00am-10.30am: "What my first research project was, how I found out about it, and what made me continue in the field of research" Oliver Jonas, PhD (Assistant Professor of Radiology), and Steven Piper, PhD (Owner, Isomics, Inc.)
  • 10.30am-11.30pm: Session II: 2 presentations, Lucas Ewing introduces (Talk 15 minutes, discussion 10 minutes, chair's wrap-up 5 min)
    • 10.30-11.00: Katarina Stephan
      • Katarina is a rising senior at Milton Academy. She will be presenting Exploratory Data Analysis and Summary Statistics for Prostate Cancer Diagnosis in MP-MRI using Basic Natural Language Processing.
    • 11.00-11.30: Ahmed Mahran
      • Ahmed is s a 4th year medical student at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He will be presenting Siemens Remote Control Interface with 3D Slicer.
  • 11.30pm-12.30pm: Lunch and "Group Picture"
  • 12.30pm-1.00pm: "What was your first research project you took part in? How did you find out about it? What made you want to continue in the field of research? What is your proudest research accomplishment?"

Lenny is a Master student in Biomechanical engineering at the EPFL in Switzerland. Fumi is from Canon. They will present Snake Robot for Transbronchial Biopsy.

  • 1.30-2.00: Dian Ren

Dian is a Master student in Biomedical Engineering at the Ochanomizu University in Japan. She will be presenting on Experience at the SPL.
